The Exxel Group

History

The Exxel Group was founded in 1991 by Mr. Juan Navarro, who had been Chairman of Citicorp Capital Investors S.A., Citicorp's private equity investment vehicle in Argentina. Mr. Navarro recognized that the unprecedented political and economic changes occurring in the Latin American Region in the late 1980s, coupled with the globalization of the markets, would have a significant and long-lasting effect on privately held companies, as well as on government owned companies subject to privatization.

In order to successfully adapt to the increasingly competitive global business environment, a trend significantly accelerated by the opening to the world economy of the countries in the Region, most regional companies required a revised strategic vision; additional capital, and a professional management team capable of implementing comprehensive changes in the organizations. Since the public equity markets in South America were underdeveloped and there were few, if any, private equity firms investing in the region, Mr. Navarro decided to establish a locally based independent buy-out firm with the backing of global, institutional private equity investors.

Exxel developed a distinctive and successful business model meeting the highest western business standards throughout the organization. This model, allowed Exxel to raise increasing amounts of capital from a large number of sophisticated, global institutional investors; to manage and build businesses and to produce substantial returns for its investors.
